Father’s Day in KC!

June 12, 2017
Restaurants around our city are rejoicing for Father’s Day weekend! The brunch options for Dad in Kansas City are endless, and there are countless weekend activities happening to celebrate the fathers in your life! Here are some of my favorite happenings: Kansas City Zoo: Celebrate your papa bear with a trip to the zoo! On June 18th, dads will receive free admission AND a complimentary hot dog. Who can pass that up? Stroll through the animal kingdom with the king of your jungle and create memories you’ll never forget! Pioneer Trails Adventures: For that history buff father of yours, explore the great outdoors in historic Independence, Missouri! On June 17th Pioneer Trails Adventures is offering half off admission for dads! From touring Civil War battle sites to the Truman’s home, this trip back in time is the perfect event to experience alongside Dad! Boulevardia Father’s Day Beer & BBQ Brunch: Get Dad something he’ll really love this year with a ticket to the Boulevardia Festival! Go the extra mile and snag a ticket to their special Father’s Day brunch! Boulevardia is the perfect blend of beer, food, music, and fun! If I had to guess, that would definitely peak your father’s interest. This festival is SO fun, and experiencing it with your dad–even better! Father’s Day Run: Whip Dad into shape with a family friendly run on June 18th! There’s a 5K, 10K, and kid’s run, all guaranteed to make that fitness loving father of yours happy! Exercise your love for your dad while supporting a great cause–all proceeds go to benefit Village Shalom’s programs and services for their residents and families. Father’s Day Brunch: Find something that suits your dad’s taste at one of the many delicious restaurants around KC! You can’t go wrong with a good meal. Treat Dad to a brunch buffet from Nick and Jake’s mouthwatering menu! Or, drive over to Summit Grill and Bar to enjoy their Father’s Day barbeque brunch with free beer for Dad and live blues music–now that’s the perfect way to celebrate! They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so you can’t go wrong with all of the delicious restaurants around Kansas City! Do you have a go-to Father’s Day tradition? How about a favorite brunch spot for Dad? Let me know in the comments below!

How to Travel With Your Dog

April 24, 2014

Don’t leave your furry companion at home this weekend, I’m not talking about your husband!

I have some tips for traveling with your dog.

Tip #1. Safety first! Animals should be just as secured and safe as your human passengers! Perhaps you didn’t know this but you can buy seat belts for your dog! They range in sizes, so you don’t have to worry about your small dog.

Tip #2. If you’re going on a long road trip, remember that dogs get just as bored as humans. Make sure to pack toys and treats for them. If you can, try to find a spill-proof water bowl so you don’t make a mess in your car.

Tip #3. Dogs car get car sick just like anyone else. Make some stops to ensure that your dog can walk around and get some fresh air. Also, if you do leave your car, make sure to never leave your dog alone when it’s incredibly hot or freezing cold.

Is stick shift worth learning?

December 18, 2013
Raise your hand if you’ve never stalled out in an intersection — either you did, your friend did, or you witnessed some other unlucky soul doing so. It’s the sign of a stick shift driver in training, and like learning many things in life, it takes bravery to begin the process. But is it worth it? The masses are preach the truth!

Let me put it this way: If you survive stalling out, you feel a lot more like this while driving: 550b5c60f94ffcca9c86908524564426 (Really cool.) My recommendation? Swallow your automatic-cars-only pill and take the plunge into the fabulous world of manual driving! Grab a friend or a parent who’s willing to spend some time teaching you the intricacies, and soon enough you’ll join the ranks of fabulous folks who drive stick!

Raise your hand if you felt like this ^^ today

December 13, 2013
It was quite a slippery slope in Kansas City today… I saw multiple people falling and sliding, both inside their cars and on their own two feet (myself included). bambi-on-the-ice-o ice-slip-o Anyways, you’ve heard my spiel on driving in the snow/ice, so I’m not going to bug you anymore about it. Just please, go slow and stay safe. Now onto something new! The holidays are coming up! How many of your are driving home versus flying home versus staying home? Well, regardless of where you go, just remember one thing: 22f8b8d8572acfd056f0417584278cc5 Have a good weekend all 🙂

The United States is in a crisis.

December 6, 2013
A weather crisis, that is. Granted the above photo was taken earlier today, the point is still very much obvious: It is a cold, cold world out there, and that means potentially icy roads and lots of car drama. With all that said, I’d like to take a moment and share some suggestions about tires, more specifically tires in the snow and the safety that still needs to come with them. It doesn’t matter if you have the biggest, baddest truck in town, if you have old tires, your car isn’t going to get very far (or at least get very far safely) in the snow. Take a look at the advice I gave on Thursday: Screen Shot 2013-12-06 at 2.29.18 PM Some great comments were given by a few of my followers. Take heed! Screen Shot 2013-12-06 at 2.34.16 PM Yes, you’re obviously find peace having a car/truck with 4WD, but it doesn’t mean you need to act fearless. The rules still apply to you just as much as they do to the little smart car up the road with rear-wheel drive. Go slow, and go safely.

Bundle up and buckle up, it's time for cold weather!

November 6, 2013
It is 41 degrees right now and all I want to do is curl up in the warmest blanket possible right next to a fireplace with a huge cup o’ cocoa. As you can probably tell, I don’t fare too well during winter 😉 And you know what else doesn’t run at peak performance during cold weather? Your car! So bundle up and buckle up, folks, it’s time to prepare your vehicular transport for the chilly weather! 1. First off, shout out to all the mamas and papas in the world who’ve given this advice to their kiddos driving in icy weather at any point in their life: “Take it slow. Don’t drive any faster than the speed at which you’re willing to hit a brick wall.” Driving slowly and carefully will always be an option that the driver can have full control over. 2. Pack some heat for the cold. Some items I’d suggest for your trunk in case of emergency: ice scraper, windshield de-icer, flashlight, blanket(s), extra layers of clothing, a first aid kit, water, and  snacks. 3. Double-check your headlights and any other lights on the exterior of your car! 4. I went on a tiny road trip this past weekend, and before I left I checked the air pressure in my car tires… And thank goodness! The air was almost 10 PSI lower than I normally had ’em at. The cold weather is going to do funky things to your tires, so make sure you double check, especially before trips! 5. Replace your windshield wipers every 6 months, and make sure you’re super on top of that once it starts raining, hailing, and snowing. Special wipers might be necessary if the weather dictates. 6. Always make sure your heater and defroster are in proper working order. 7. It can’t hurt to take a trip to your local auto store to have certain things looked over. This includes the battery, exhaust system, and anything else that might normally cause problems during winter. 8. Have chains or snow tires if your area is known to get dumped on with snow. I cannot stress this enough. 9. Keep your gas tank half full at all times. 10. Don’t be a hero when it comes to driving! Take it slow and steady if you feel it necessary!

How to Autumn-ize Your Car

October 8, 2013
It’s October! When it comes to fall, I’m one of those people who bursts at the seams with all of the autumn traditions and smells and opportunities. And that’s why I’m creating this specific blog post about making your car as fall-ish and fantastic as possible! 🙂 My tips are simple but great! spicedcinaut First up, it’s time for all the classic autumn smells! My personal favorites: spiced pumpkin and apple cinnamon. (The smell of a bonfire is another favorite of mine, but a lot of people don’t enjoy it as much as I do, so I’ll set those differences aside.) To make your car smell more like the wonderful season that is the fall, head to your nearest grocery store and stock up on some yummy air fresheners! Both you and your passengers will thank you for your go-getter mentality for a great-smelling vehicle! trutruckdog Next, store some comfy blankets and sweatshirts in the back of your car! Any evening adventures of star gazing or bonfires (!!) or a drive-in will call for warmth, so stay on top of it by always having extra clothing and blankets in your vehicle. You could even go 110% and bring a MATTRESS so you’re totally and completely comfy! lwtklwtlw Share the gift of giving! October has a lot of opportunities to give back, and McCarthy Auto is all over that! Presenting three different ways you can share your wealth 🙂 First,  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! For every new and pre-owned vehicle sold at any of the six McCarthy Auto locations, $10 will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in downtown Kansas City! Next up, take the pledge! McCarthy Auto is teaming up with PrepsKC to “Take the Pledge to Not Text and Drive.” Check out http://prepskc.com/take-the-pledge.php to take the pledge and vote for your favorite local high school! The school at the end of October with the most amount of pledges will be awarded $5,000 to the football program courtesy of McCarthy Auto Group! And finally, show your hockey love! Grab your season tickets now and go check out some Missouri Mavericks games — McCarthy Auto is a sponsor!! Three cheers for October!!!

September 24, 2013
In case you didn’t catch my Facebook post yesterday morning, I have some super cool news to announce on behalf of McCarthy Auto!
McCarthy Blue Springs Hyundai (from Blue Springs, MO) will be the exclusive Automotive Dealership Sponsor with the Missouri Mavericks Hockey Team for the 2013/2014 season!
Pretty cool, eh? We sure do love our Mavs, so sponsoring them is an added bonus! You can find out all the cool team information at www.missourimavericks.com. Make sure you check it out! 🙂 And one last question for you… How do you prepare a hockey rink for the 2013-2014 hockey season? With GoPros and paint cans, of course. Check out this sweet video of the preparation of the Missouri Mavericks Hockey arena! It’s extra cool, because they filmed the time lapse of the event — a process that took 18 hours, beginning bright and early at 7 a.m. on August 30, 2013. The season officially begins November 2 at 7:05 p.m.! Go Mavericks!
