10 Awesome Apps for Your Car

July 31, 2014
There are so many fun apps out there for entertainment, helpful apps for every day life, and techy apps to keep your phone organized. I’m always on the lookout for cool new apps, so I thought I’d write a post to share the best apps related to your car! Both Android phones and iPhones have a ton of options for apps that help with driving, parking, getting gas and more. Here are a few of my favorites: 1. Take Me To My Car If you’ve ever lost your car in a parking garage, or even in the grocery store parking lot, this is the app for you. I think we can all agree that it’s a pain to try to remember where you parked, but thankfully, there’s an app that does the job for you! This app uses GPS to locate your car, then uses Apple maps to navigate back to it. 2. Waze Most everyone has Google maps or some other navigation system on their phone, but sometimes the traffic situation isn’t taken into account as well as I’d like it to. Thankfully, there’s an awesome app that crowd sources information about the traffic status. And it’s actually fun to use! 3. RepairPal Most people are afraid of heading to the auto repair shop, for fear that they’ll get ripped off or talked into paying for something they don’t need. Unfortunately, I can understand why people have that opinion, but there are plenty of auto repair shops that will give you a good experience, if only you know where to find them! This app helps with that, offering free referrals to trustworthy shops. RepairPal also includes estimates for how much your repairs will cost and different shops. car-smartphone-app 4. GassBuddy GassBuddy is the perfect app for people who always want to get the best deal on gas. You no longer have to check the gas prices as you drive by a gas station, then risk heading to one you hope will be cheaper. Spending all that time driving around just wastes more gas, the exact thing you’re trying to save! But if you just check the Gasbuddy app, you can see the ranking of the cheapest gas wherever you are. 5. Trapster Every town seems to have their known speed traps, where cops just camp out waiting to pull people over for going just a few miles over the speed limit. But what if you’re in an unfamiliar town? Trapster is there for you! This app tells you about all of the speed traps surrounding your location, so you can make sure to be extra cautious as you approach the zone. Genius! 6. TripAlyizer This is another app for people who like to save money on gas. (And who doesn’t?) TripAlyizer will tell you the cheapest route to get from one point to another, by anaylizing your driving habits and how your car burns through gas. The app will also help you reduce the miles you put on your car, giving you even more value! 7. Craftsman Garage Door app This app is pretty amazing: it replaces your remote control garage door opener and allows you to do it all from your phone. This is great because it allows you to open and close your garage door from far away, so you can close the door if you forgot to do it when you left the house, or even let in a friend or family member who might not have a key. That way, if you get into a car accident and the other person is at fault, you’ll have the video to prove it. 9. Carticipate If you’re all about going green, this is the perfect app for you. Carticipate helps you link up with other drivers so you can hitch a ride — without actually having to hitch hike! This app helps you save gas, money and the environment by carpooling with others on journeys near or far. 10. Car Minder Plus Rather than having to keep your car manual and scan through it every time you’re trying to figure something out for car maintenance, you can use this handy app. Here, you can log the repairs you’ve had done, the last time you had your oil changes, etc. Then the app will remind you when it’s time for another trip to the auto shop.

The New 2014 Car Apps

January 16, 2014
Story #1 You’re driving down the street when suddenly someone clips your car! Story #2 Your friend Anna is trying to remember where she parked, and now she is honking her horn from her key chain. Story #3 Your brother-in-law, John, is driving all around town determined to find the best gas prices, but eventually runs out of gas. All three of these stories have one thing in common. Each can be fixed, or prevented, by purchasing an app on your smart phone. Technology is a great thing and it can make your life so much easier. It’s important to be updated on technology. Here is a new list of apps, that will help you with your car experience while you’re driving.   GasBuddy-The app posts local gas prices in an easy-to-use format and in the different grades, including diesel. Dynolicious Classic-  The nexus of your automotive world, test the performance of you car including horsepower, 0-60, and 1/4 mile. Share your vehicle photos, stories and performance results with the world. Repair Pal- Free referrals to auto repair shops you can trust in your area. Witness Driving- This app makes your smart phone turn into a dash cam! It will log time, date, speed, location, and acceleration of vehicle. Waze- The world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app. So you get to know the best routes, from other drivers on the road. Honk- You can mark where you parked with a GPS pin. The app tracks how much time you have left on the meter. Car Minder Plus/ aCar/ Gas Cubby- Reminds you when to schedule a maintenance as well as logging all of the service and repairs. Augmented Driving-  Collision and lane departure warnings. Rev/Torque/Carbonga- displays the basics of engine performance such as speed, RPMs, and fuel consumption. Carrr Matey- Helps you mark your location when you park. The app then uses the GPS to guide you back to your ship. (Might be a little more fun then Honk) iWrecked- This app helps you through the aftermath of an accident. It helps you with taking photos of the accident, keep track of insurance, and driver contact info. Toogethr- Helps with coordinating your carpool. Parker- It can tell you parking lots and garages nearby to park.   Now, how could these stories from the beginning be rewritten? Story #1 You purchased the Augmented Driving app before you started driving. While you were going down the street, your app warned you about a vehicle approaching closely. You break suddenly and the vehicle doesn’t clip your brand new car. (Avoiding an accident) Story #2 Your friend Anna bought the Honk app before she parked. She pinned where her vehicle was and went shopping. When she came out her app located her directly to her vehicle, without any embarrassing honks. Story #3 John, your brother-in-law, purchased the app GasBuddy. It told him the best gas prices in the area, saving him the trouble of driving around. Try one these apps today and tell me if it makes your car experience easier!
