KC Chiefs 2016 Season Preview

August 15, 2016
Guys, it’s about that time again. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, I’m not talking about the holidays. I’m talking about football season! This past Saturday, our Chiefs took the gridiron for the first time in nearly 7 months (210 days to be exact). That is way too long for an avid football fan. Your days of re-watching last season’s highlights are over because the Chiefs are back and we are hungrier than ever. Despite our disappointing playoff loss last year, we had a good run and it was a good year for us Chiefs fans. But get ready… I have a feeling this year will be even better. That’s right, we could go all the way in 2016! We have most of last year’s team coming back, a strong defense, a more experienced Alex Smith, and an AFC West ready for the taking. Yes, our rivals over in Denver may have won the Super Bowl, but they lost something even more valuable: Peyton Manning. Then you have the Raiders and Chargers who are more concerned with relocating than winning. It’s an exciting time to be a Chiefs fan because we’re taking over our division, and we will make a strong push to represent the AFC in Houston for Super Bowl LI. The NFL Preseason is the perfect time to make any last-minute adjustments while also giving the young talent a chance to shine. It’s also a great chance for those who aren’t big into football to get acquainted with our team and prepare to lose their voices at Arrowhead Stadium. For those of us who already love this team, I can’t stress how important you are to our success. Go put on your Jamaal Charles jersey, turn on your TVs, and keep supporting our Chiefs. We the fans have a big impact on the team. We stick with them through the good and the bad, and there’s a lot of good ahead. Let’s show the league why Kansas City has the greatest fanbase in all of sports! GO, CHIEFS!!!

Help McCarthy Toyota of Sedalia "Cram the Closet"

July 27, 2016
IMG_2807 Between now and July 31st, McCarthy Toyota of Sedalia is hosting a “Cram the Closet” donation drive in support of Sedalia-Pettis County United Way (SPCUW)! Items going in the “closet” are considered unmet needs across the community. These needs include diapers, wipes, paper products, hygiene products, and household cleaning products. All local service providers and child care facilities have access to the closet, so it’s important to cram it FULL! You can stop by the McCarthy Toyota dealership anytime during business hours to drop off your donations. Let’s give back to our fellow Missourians and help make a difference in our very own community!
About SPCUW: Sedalia-Pettis County United Way’s mission is to unite people and resources to improve lives in our community. The Sedalia-Pettis County United Way has a proud tradition of over fifty years of service to Sedalia and Pettis County. It was founded in order to provide the most cost-effective method of raising funds for the county’s basic charitable organizations. Your local United Way is run by volunteers who plan each campaign, make policy, set goals, and budget funds.  The money you contribute to United Way is used to meet the needs of people in our community.  That means the overwhelming majority of your donation goes directly to our agencies!

Fireworks, Food, and Fun: KC RiverFest

June 22, 2016

The annual KC RiverFest, Kansas City’s premiere Independence day party, is just a few weeks away! The festival, which began in 2005, is a celebration of the area’s culture, heritage, and our nation’s birth. RiverFest helps bring together the community for an exciting, family-oriented event, whose profits directly benefit the area. This “Kansas City Riverfront Tradition” is the place to be this Fourth of July and the only holiday celebration downtown!

RiverFest is organized annually by Friends for the River – Kansas City (FOR-KC), a non-profit that formed in 2002, and whose primary goal is to mold the Riverfront into a more vibrant and dynamic area. FOR-KC seeks to address a variety of interests such as history, education, conservation, recreation, and entertainment regarding the Kansas City Riverfront. RiverFest is FOR-KC’s way of celebrating both the Missouri River, and all of the amazing organizations that ensure the Riverfront remains a special place for us to enjoy.

This year’s event offers an array of entertainment for both children and adults. KC RiverFest will feature two stages of live music, food and beverage vendors, bounce houses and craft activities, interactive booths from the Healthy River Partners, and a day of kite flying with the KC Kite Club. Once the sun goes down, RiverFest attendees will be treated to the largest fireworks show the region has to offer!

Looking to help?

If you’re interested in taking part in the event itself, RiverFest is always accepting applications for volunteers! By volunteering, you’ll have an opportunity to donate your time to an excellent, local cause benefiting Kansas City. Other perks include:

2016 Jadon’s Hope Bug Run

April 17, 2016
McCarthy Auto Group is proud to support the 2016 Jadon’s Hope Bug Run! Now in its fourth year, the run has become an even bigger fixture in Kansas City. Jadon Burks, nicknamed “The BUG,” was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) when he was only two months old. This terminal disease affects the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement, resulting in the loss of nerve cells called motor neurons. Jadon, now six years old, is affected by the most severe form of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Doctors predicted “nine months to a year” for Jadon, but he continues to defy the medical odds every day, celebrating significant milestones that many SMA babies never get to see. He is such a fighter! The Jadon’s Hope Bug Run benefits the Jadon’s Hope Foundation and their mission to find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Jadon’s Hope Foundation strives to promote educational awareness and fund research efforts for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the #1 genetic killer of infants under the age of two, while also providing support for families affected by terminal childhood diseases.
Register for the Bug Run today, and join Jadon’s Hope on their quest to find a cure for SMA.

National Donate A Life Month

April 10, 2016

April is a time for enjoying spring weather and watching the Masters, but did you know it’s also National Donate A Life Month?

During the month of April, the Kansas City Health & Wellmobile is teaming up with the non-profit organization Donate Life America to emphasize the importance of being an organ donor. National Donate A Life Month (NDLM) was founded in 2003 by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations.

NDLM is meant to encourage Americans to sign up to be organ, eye, and tissue donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives through donation. The overall goal is to significantly increase the number of donors and save the lives of thousands of people who are in need of a transplant!

Nearly 124,000 people in the United States are currently waiting for organ transplants, and approximately every 10 minutes there is a new person added to the waiting list. In 2015, there were 30,970 transplants performed in the United States using organs, eyes, and tissue from 15,068 donors. Wow!

Still wondering if organ donation is right for you? Here are some helpful facts:

  • 22 people die every day while waiting for a transplant.
  • 1 organ donor can save 8 lives and change the lives of more than 50 people.
  • Almost anyone can be an organ donor, regardless of age or medical history.
  • All major religions in the United States support organ donation.
  • Donors are needed for all races and ethnic groups. Transplant success rates increase when organs are matched between members of the same ethnic background.

There are several ways to get involved: Start a fundraiser to raise awareness, join as a partner with Donate Life America, get involved with events in your area, or become a donor yourself. You alone can make a difference. Together, we can save lives.
