Don’t wait till the last moment! Look for the warning signs of a bad transmission before it’s too late.
1. Noises: If you’re hearing a clunking or whining noise, it’s usually a sign that you have an issue with your vehicle. Listen to what your car is trying to tell you.
2. Leaks: Red fluid on your driveway could mean two different things: you ran over some road kill or a troubling transmission.
3. Smells: Have you ever smelled that gross burning smell? That usually means low fluids, which is a result of overheated transmission fluid.
4. Hard time shifting: If your car is a manual and you’re having a hard time shifting it could be a warning sign.
5. Check engine light: Last but not least, if the check engine light comes on.
Make sure to seek repairs as soon as possible if you are experiencing any of these warning signs.
To all my faithful Facebook friends, you are awesome
Now if you consider yourself true social media elitists, it’s time to pay your dues to my other social media sites!
So go follow, follow, follow!! 🙂
My first car, a white Mitsubishi Montero Sport. I was 16 and had the world at my fingertips.
Owning a car is a special thing.
I don’t know about you guys, but my cars have always been an extension of myself. I’ve had so many different memories created in my cars — belting along with the radio, cruising down the highway on road trips, or simply getting behind the wheel after a long work day… My cars have always been somewhat of a sanctuary.
When this whole “Lauren Wants to Know” idea began
, I had a mission: I wanted women to know their stuff when it came to buying a car, and I wanted to help enlighten them! I stand by that today: Car shopping should be an enjoyable task because you’re purchasing future memories.
So this post serves as a reminder: Ladies (and gentlemen!), I’m here for you and all of your car questions.
I’m going to be a bit more scheduled with my up-and-coming posts, posting how-to’s, tips/tricks, automotive news, and event previews/recaps on a regular basis. I’ll research everything from the nitty-gritty details about car tires to what exactly happens when you buy a car, and simplify the facts so you
know exactly what’s going on when it comes to your vehicle.
I’m here for you — all you have to do is ask!
Also, connect with me! (I’m all over the Internet!)
He loves me. He loves me not. He loves me.
One day out of 365! One day on which couples express their love for each other. One day for an excessive amount of greeting cards sold. One day when bouquet of roses are sent in bundles. One day we outwardly acknowledge our significant others. My question is … what about the other 364? I mean, really?!
So, speaking as a “hopeless romantic” myself, here are some insights into the spirit of Valentine’s Day in Kansas City.
For the taken:
- A night out on the town: Le Fou Frog, Coal Vines or Carmens.
- A day of beauty and rest: at Aestheticare.
- A day of glitz and glamour: visit Mazzarese Jewelry.
- A day of blossoming love: Dan Meiners or Flowers by Emily can assist.
For the single ladies and gentlemen:
Scr*w it! You can do all of the above! Whether you’re unattached or happily married going on 30 years. Enjoy your day of love!
HE LOVES ME!
Check presentation for Reading, Kansas
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to share a story!
Months of preparation finally paid off — literally. With help from KCTV5, Cumulus Radio, Heartland Habitat for Humanity, and all who contributed time and money for the Rebuild Reading campaign, we were able to present a check to Reading in hopes of helping rebuild the lives and homes destroyed in last May’s tornadoes. The lovely and spirited Barbara was here to represent those from the small, rural town of Reading. Not only was she here to accept the check, but she shed some serious news on a local couple from Lenexa, Kansas.
Bill Holthouse’s name was chosen from the 2000+ names in the drawing for the 2012 Chevy Convertible Camaro. He and Mrs. Holthouse were on their way home from the hospital after having had back surgery several days before. A little weary about the voice message they received from McCarthy, they called back to see what this assumed “sales call” was about! Fifteen minutes later, the couple rushed onto the showroom floor in complete shock and disbelief. They had just won a brand new red Camaro on a $40 donation to our Rebuild Reading campaign. And on top of that, they were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary THAT very day!
One lucky family!
What a wonderful story, for a wonderful cause, and for a wonderful local family!
Celebrating a 2nd birthday … Some suggest playing Ring Around the Rosie, singing Itsy Bitsy Spider or decorating place mats with stickers and markers. I think we’re beyond such things! 🙂
Two years ago, I launched a campaign. An idea. A way to keep women connected and involved. It’s been a great ride, but now it’s time to lay down some new pavement.
We’re spicing up the site with a calendar of events
, Ask the Mechanic
section, and our very own mommy blogger, Miss Sarah
, will be dropping by once a week. On top of that, be on the lookout for new topics and stories, but also plenty of photos, videos, and other fun surprises…
Thank you for being a part of my birthday celebration. I look forward to many many more with ya’ll!
It’s time to deck the halls … literally!
Join me, 17 local artists, Young Variety members, Kansas City’s Vocalocity
, Shawnee Mission East Lancer Dancers, Shawnee Mission East drum-line, Miss Ella, and of course, Santa in the first annual Hooray for Holidays at Mission Farms
Seventeen local artistis, including my mother, Nancy McCarthy, will donate their works to benefit Variety. This is "Partridge in a Pear Tree," 3 x 4 on canvas. Gorgeous!
Come have a drink with Young Variety of Greater Kansas City at blank burgers+bottles at 5 p.m. Blanc has been kind enough to offer $3 Boulevards and small plate appetizer specials to all Young Variety supporters.
After a beverage and burger, Santa and myself will be presenting the adorable and fabulous Miss Ella with a brand new adaptive bike as a part of Variety Children’s Charity’s mission: to assist our children of Kansas City who have physical or mental disabilities and provide them with the most essential need — mobility.
In addition, the generous and talented local artists will have their masterpieces
unveiled in Mission Farms’ store windows, each of which will be auctioned off at a later date to raise funds for the Variety mission. (My mother, Nancy McCarthy is one of those talented artists!
And at the end, Ella will help Santa and I flip the switch on the Mission Farms Christmas Tree to kick off this holiday season!
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday Dear Chevy. Happy Birthday to you!
(If you could only hear me sing. Impressive!)

Ladies, have I got your attention?! For all you shoe fanatics out there, here’s a chance for you to spread the love.
Twelve years ago, Elite Feet
started collecting and donating shoes to a single charitable organization in Shawnee, Kansas. Since then it has expanded to helping the homeless and under served families in our own backyard through donations to five different charities.
Shoe Kansas City
will be distributing these shoes to the homeless via Catholic Charities
on the Kansas side and City Union Mission Family Division
on the Missouri side. Last year, 12,000 shoes were collected, but lost jobs and the recession means Kansas City is upping the ante to 15,000 pairs this year. It’s getting cold out there, so help us do even better!
I know there’s a couple sneakers and boots in my closet that haven’t seen daylight in some time. So take a moment, clean out your closet and help those in need.
The Hawthorne Plaza Shops
, Shawnee Mission School District
and McCarthy Auto Group
will be drop-off locations for your gently used shoes this year.
