Last week, facebook friend, Jacquie Norwood sent me a message WANTing TO KNOW! Here’s what she said:

    Hey Lauren,

I have been a fan of your Lauren Wants to Know fb page for a while, and I really enjoy your posts. I am currently the marketing director for Paul Davis Restoration of KC, and everyone in my company, including myself, drives a company car. This is obviously a perk, but since I am their most recent hire, I was given the oldest vehicle to drive. My boss has agreed to upgrade my car soon, but I wanted to present him with reasons why it is so important for me to drive a good-looking vehicle since I am the one in front of our clients the most.

Have you ever taken to the streets and asked people what your vehicle says about you and if a nicer car can get you more or less business? Will people trust you more in business with a certain vehicle, and are people judging your success by what you drive?

Let me know if you can help me in my pursuit of a more presentable company car. Thanks!

So, I ask you – my fellow friends, is it true? Does what you drive shed some light on who you are, from a business standpoint?

On February 25, Kansas Citians will have their chance for fifteen minutes of fame on stage at the Midland Theatre, all in support of Variety, The Children’s Charity. It’s the Variety Show of 2012, baby!

And yours truly will be one of those brave (and crazy) souls to do so. My talent, you may ask? Well, talking loudly! I will be showcasing my “spokesperson” skills for all to see. Hopefully I can force a few laughs (preferably, not at me!). Do me a favor — check out my fellow competitors, mark your calendars, and click to donate. Here’s a hint: Lauren McCarthy, Lauren McCarthy, Lauren McCarthy!

Variety, The Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City’s ultimate goal is to provide children with the gift of mobility.

Discover which ones can sing, dance, make you laugh, or just simply entertain!

I remember on our way back from Mrs. Warner’s piano lessons hearing, “Your lack of preparation does not constitute an emergency on my part!” Wise words from mom.

My mother has always had a knack for organization, for order, for perfection. She was always efficient with mailing birthday cards, putting up seasonal décor, hosting the baby shower, and planning the basketball team dinner. Holiday shopping wasn’t any different. I like to think I learned a couple things.

    Christmas shopping in KC

Taking everything I learned from my mom about shopping, I'm hitting KC's deals hard this year!

When fighting the crowds and hitting the deals, here’s my little list of car necessities:

    • Don’t forget your Naughty or Nice list!
    • Ladies, keep flats in the car. You can’t run in heels!
    • Fingerless gloves! Hands stay warm in car, but still able to text and count change.
    • Bottled water. Hydration is key!
    • Use your GPS (if you’ve got it). No time to stray!
    • Separate envelope for gift receipts.
    • Energy bar. Snacky snacky!
    • Seats down in back (room for bags).
    • Go alone. This is no time for babysitting.
    • And if you have kids, you better ask my mommy blogger, Sarah.
    Good luck and happy shopping!

    Check presentation for Reading, Kansas

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to share a story!

Months of preparation finally paid off — literally. With help from KCTV5, Cumulus Radio, Heartland Habitat for Humanity, and all who contributed time and money for the Rebuild Reading campaign, we were able to present a check to Reading in hopes of helping rebuild the lives and homes destroyed in last May’s tornadoes. The lovely and spirited Barbara was here to represent those from the small, rural town of Reading. Not only was she here to accept the check, but she shed some serious news on a local couple from Lenexa, Kansas.

Bill Holthouse’s name was chosen from the 2000+ names in the drawing for the 2012 Chevy Convertible Camaro. He and Mrs. Holthouse were on their way home from the hospital after having had back surgery several days before. A little weary about the voice message they received from McCarthy, they called back to see what this assumed “sales call” was about! Fifteen minutes later, the couple rushed onto the showroom floor in complete shock and disbelief. They had just won a brand new red Camaro on a $40 donation to our Rebuild Reading campaign. And on top of that, they were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary THAT very day!

    One lucky family!

What a wonderful story, for a wonderful cause, and for a wonderful local family!
