How to: Save on tolls with a K-Tag

We make  a lot of trips along I-70 to return to my hometown of Manhattan, KS. That means paying $5 in tolls for each round trip. During our frequent football-season trips, tolls add up even more. Enter the K-Tag, which saves us both time AND money. OK maybe only like $5 per football season, but avoiding the hassle of slowing down to pay toll — especially with a little one in the back seat — is worth even more.

After purchasing the $15 tag, we save 15 percent in tolls, have no monthly fees, and don’t have to wait in line when passing through. We pay for our tag automatically from our bank account, so it’s not even another bill I have to think about each month.

Here’s how to get your own tag:

1. Apply for a K-Tag online, or purchase yours a local Kansas AAA store.

2. Register your K-Tag and provide credit or debit card information.

3. Install your K-Tag in the middle of the windshield (like a sticker), and you’re good to go!

When driving through the tollbooth area, move to the right lane and slow down. The system will recognize your tag, and fly by all the cash payers.

To find out how much you can save, go to the toll calculator and see your cash and K-Tag totals.
