spring with the kiddos

As the weather gets warmer and Kansas City landscape gets more beautiful, I get the itch to be out and about. It’s an exciting spring for the metro’s parents with awesome annual events and some new, exciting options to entertain the kids. Here’s where you might find me this spring:

Sea Life Aquarium
It’s here! From what I hear it’s fun, but very busy. Save 10 percent by buying your ticket online.

Get your goat on at Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead

Deanna Rose Farmstead
I’ve never been, but this is top of my list for this spring. Barns, playgrounds and an ice cream parlor? I’m there.

Marble Day
I’m really excited about this event in Bonner Springs on Saturday, May 5. Especially the Running of the Pinkies. What the heck is that, you ask?

Flights of Fancy Festival
We did this last year. Kids can make their own kites, play on inflatable toys and marvel at amazing (and huge) kites. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Yummy food available for purchase.

Legoland Discovery Center
The big grand opening is April 29 with rides, 4D movies and play areas. You can buy your combo ticket to Sea Life for savings.

Woofstock
The fifth annual WoofStock on Sunday, May 6 features a family festival filled with pet-related vendors, animal adoptions, pet contests, prizes and fun benefiting the Northland Animal Welfare Society at Zona Rosa.

Brookside Art Annual
Kick off the art show season with the Brookside event on May 4, 5, and 6. Children’s activities will take place on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll be there to appreciate art and eat the food.

Parks and pools
Kansas City area pools and spraygrounds open May 26. We’ll be at the parks including some of these fun ones. Our favorite? Loose Park with some Yogurtini on the side.

Story time
For those rainy spring days, don’t forget the Kansas City and Johnson County libraries offer story time for kids of all ages. Check out the JoCo calendar here and the KCMO offerings here.

Happy Spring!

LWTK’s mommy blogger, Sarah, is attempting to be a good mama to little Henry, wife to Shea, full-time employee and part-time grad student all while avoiding making dinner from a box every night. In her non-existent free time, she’s running, eating popcorn and blogging about it all at The Gatsby Diaries.
