My father is an avid football fan … seeing that he spent most of his college years on the field at K-State. (Go Cats!) The Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association embodies an outstanding group of local high school coaches and players, whose goal is to enhance opportunities for these deserving students. For the past four years, my pops has given scholarships to 22 scholar athletes in the Kansas City area. And every year we celebrate with a banquet at my fellow alum, Avila University. (Go Eagles!)
These students are chosen based off performance on the field, in the classroom and around the community.
This years guest speaker was Danan Hughes, former wide-receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs. His speech focused around lessons learned from his father. (Boy, can I relate?!) Danan stressed the importance of character, college, and finishing what you start. If you’re ever in a struggle “look up to the heavens and God will help you.”
